Grand Connections Launches to Support Kinship Caregivers in White County

White County Family Connection is proud to announce the launch of Grand Connections, a kinship care support network launching March 12. This new program was created specifically for grandparents and non-biological caregivers raising children due to parental absence, crisis, or instability.

Across our community, many grandparents and relatives have stepped into full-time parenting roles. While deeply meaningful, this transition often comes with unique emotional, legal, financial, and educational challenges. Grand Connections exists to ensure these caregivers feel supported, informed, and connected.

What Is Grand Connections?

Grand Connections is a monthly gathering designed to:

  • Reduce caregiver stress and isolation
  • Increase awareness of local resources
  • Build peer support and meaningful relationships
  • Equip caregivers with practical tools and advocacy knowledge

Caregivers will have the opportunity to learn from trusted local professionals while also connecting with others who understand their journey.

Monthly Meetups Begin This Spring

Meetups will be held on the 2nd Thursday of each month, beginning:

  • March 12 – White County Recreation Department New Gym Café
  • April 9 – White County Recreation Department Playground (10 a.m. playdate instead of regular meeting)
  • May 14 – White County Recreation Department New Gym Café

Coffee bar opens at 8:15 a.m.
Meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. (after school drop-off)

Free coffee and light snacks will be provided, and supervised childcare activities will be available during each meeting. Playdates will also be sprinkled throughout the calendar, such as during spring, summer and fall breaks to help caregivers continue to build connection.

Topics That Matter

Each month will feature relevant topics such as:

  • Navigating IEPs and school advocacy
  • Understanding guardianship and custody options
  • Accessing kinship caregiver benefits
  • Addressing childhood trauma and behavioral challenges
  • Finding community resources and emergency support
  • Balancing aging and caregiving responsibilities
  • Online safety and technology guidance

Participants will also help shape future topics to ensure the program meets real, local needs.
