The Ethical Imperative of Self-Care: Why Your Practice Needs “Rooted & Restored” Ethics Training
In the demanding field of mental health, we often speak to our clients about the importance of boundaries, balance, and self-compassion. Yet, as practitioners, we frequently relegate our own well-being to the bottom of the priority list. We treat self-care as a weekend luxury rather than a professional necessity.
But what if self-care wasn’t just “nice to have”? What if it was actually an ethical imperative?
A Different Kind of Ethics Training
On Thursday, June 11, mental health professionals have a unique opportunity to shift this paradigm. Hosted by White County Family Connection and Cornerstones Counseling, the Rooted & Restored training isn’t your typical fluorescent-lit Ethics training. Held at Mountain Education in Cleveland, GA, this experiential, nature-based clinical training is designed to help you restore your roots and proactively prevent burnout.
Why Self-Care is an Ethical Duty
When we experience burnout or secondary traumatic stress, our clinical judgment can become clouded. Our ability to hold space for others diminishes, and the risk of ethical lapses increases. By grounding our practice in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics—as well as related codes for LPCs, LMFTs, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists—we recognize that maintaining our own wellness is a core professional responsibility. We cannot provide high-quality care if we are operating on empty.
What to Expect: Beyond the Textbook
Led by Rashay Doubilet (LCSW, CFCS, APHSW-C) from North Georgia Medical Center’s psychiatry facility Laurelwood, this training goes beyond theory. Participants will:
- Engage with Nature: Move outdoors to integrate nature-based connection into clinical practice.
- The Enneagram for Self-Awareness: Use this powerful tool to understand your personal triggers and resilience markers.
- The Science of Awe: Explore how cultivating a sense of awe can foster long-term restoration.
